Reagent Addition

Must have

• Timed addition of liquids from one addition flask to the reaction vessel. ✅
• Possibility to add the liquids at a specified rate. ✅

Nice to have

• Timed addition of liquids from two or three addition flasks.
• Possibility to add solids at a specified time and rate.

Temperature Control

Must have

• Heating up to 120 °C.
• Possibility to add an ice bath around the reaction vessel for cooling.✅

Nice to have

• Heating up to 200+ °C
• A cooling system, that can cool the vessel down to -80 °C.
  • Less ambitious: cool the vessel down to -15 °C.
• Heating and cooling of the addition flasks.

Stirring

Must have

• A system that effectively stirs the contents of the vessel.✅

Nice to have

• Specific stirring from 0-1400 rpm.

Atmosphere Control

Nice to have

• Possibility to flush the system with inert gas. This gives a semi-inert atmosphere.
• Possibility to run reactions under a slightly positive pressure of inert gas, to stop air from leaking in.
• Possibility to dry the reaction vessel, stir spoon, and addition flasks, at over 100 °C (to remove moisture).

Even nicer to have

• A closed system that can alternate vacuum and inert gas, to give a completely inert atmosphere.
• Possibility to control the atmosphere in the addition flasks.

Further comment on the atmosphere control:

• If we could have an airtight system, that could keep a vacuum, we could also use that together with heating to evaporate solvents straight from the reaction vessel. Which would be super nice.

Resistances

Must have

• Resistance to all organic solvents.
• Resistance to normal acids and bases. (2 M HCl/NaOH).
• Resistance to high and low temperatures.

Nice to have

• Resistance to strong acids and bases.

Modularity

It would be very useful to be able to change the size of at least the reaction vessel.

Nice to have

• A modular system, where the reaction vessel can be anything between 50 mL to 1 L. (For example 50, 100, 250, 500, and 1000 mL).

Even nicer to have

• Possibility to make the vessel even smaller or bigger (10 mL or 2 L).
• Possibility to also modify the size of the addition flasks.
